Weekly Reflections on the Reading

September 10, 2017

Let our lives be rooted in love. Today’s second reading reminds us that our lives are to be rooted in love, for love fulfills the law. More specifically, the more we are able to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as ourselves, the more we will keep the commandments and experience the blessings God wishes to bestow on us such as peace, joy and fulfillment.

The first reading tells of God appointing Ezekiel as watchman over Israel. Saint Paul tells the people of Rome that loving one another summarizes the many laws they have concerning how to get along with each other. In the Gospel, Jesus outlines a process to be followed when one Christian sins against another brother or sister in the Lord.
