Weekly Reflections on the  Reading

August 20, 2017

God offers salvation to all who have faith in him and follow his ways.  The Lord welcomes to the kingdom all who believe in him and follow him. His mercy and love is extended to all. Let us strive not to focus on each other’s differences, but to view others through the eyes of Jesus, and seek to celebrate that we are all children of God by reaching out to one another with love and kindness.

The first reading speaks of God’s gift of salvation being offered to all people. The second reading reminds us that the gifts and call of God are irrevocable. In the Gospel, Jesus heals the daughter of a Canaanite woman because of the woman’s great faith in him.
