SAINT AUGUSTINE
“Find out how much God has given you and
from it take what you need;
the remainder which you do not require is needed by others.
The extras of the rich are the necessities of the poor.
Those who retain what is superfluous possess the goods of others.”

CATHOLIC 101
It doesn’t sound like a prayer. Think of the Profession of Faith, or the
Nicene Creed, as it is also known,
as a statement we make together out loud of what it is that we believe.
In the Profession of Faith, you’ll find all the major doctrines of the
church. Some parts of the creed are easy to understand (“We believe in
one God,”
for example), while others require more thought and background (“God
from God, Light from Light, True God from True God”). While more of a
statement than a prayer, the Profession of Faith can nonetheless be a
moment of commitment for each believer at Mass—an opportunity to affirm
exactly why we have gathered here together.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS
Did you know that about 80% of all adults coming into the Catholic
Church do so because of a personal invitation from a friend, relative,
or neighbor? Did you know that many who have considered becoming
Catholic say that no one ever asked them to become a member of our
Church? This is an invitation to all of our parishioners to spread the
word about our RCIA program. If you know of someone who may be
interested in joining our RCIA community, invite them to be part of our
Catholic tradition! Please contact the church office at 788-6386, with
the names and phone numbers of any potential inquirers. RCIA classes
will be on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:00 PM beginning on Tuesday,
September 7, 2010.
RETROUVAILLE WEEKEND
Retrouvaille is a program of the Catholic Church that attempts to help
save troubled marriages and to provide a
source of renewal and rediscovery. It has had remarkable success and we
encourage any couple who is struggling
to give it a try! Then next weekend will be September 10- 12 in Augusta,
GA.
For more information call (800) 470- 2230. Completely Confidential.
"CATCH THE SPIRIT"
The Men's Club is sponsoring our 1st annual "Catch the Sprit" 5-K and 1
Mile Fun Run/Walk at 8:00 AM on Saturday,
August 28. It will begin and end in the church parking lot. It will be a
morning of fun and fitness for the entire family.
All ages are invited to participate
Registration forms with all the details are available in the narthex and
in the church office
THANK YOU
Words cannot express the thanks I have in my heart for the caring and
loving thoughts and actions you have expressed regarding Bill’s passing.
Your generosity, especially the delicious food, helped my family through
this
difficult time. Bill loved this church and I am blessed to be part of
it.
With Love, Connie Forget
MOUNT DE SALES
Members of the community are invited to attend a reception to welcome
David Held,
the new president of Mount de Sales Academy.
Date: Sunday, August 8, 2010 Time: 4:00 - 6:00 PM (drop in)
Place: Social Hall, St. Joseph Catholic Church.
THE CHURCH IN LATIN AMERICA
Although approximately half of the world’s Catholic
population lives in Latin America, the Church in the region is losing
members at an alarming rate. They are drawn away from the Church by
other faiths and are often obliged
to migrate in pursuit of a better life. These tensions can contribute to
the destabilization of families and faith communities. You can keep
faith through your support of next week’s collection. Your generosity
will support pastoral work that engages parishioners and fosters the
faith. The Church in Latin America needs your help.
YAM
There will be no YAM activities the month of August. Coming September 14
Theology on Tap will be starting a series on The Second Vatican Council
Documents.
Please check our website for further details at
yammidga.com.

weekend, all meals, snacks, accommodations, and supplies. If you are
interested you may pick up an
application in the church office, or if you have any questions contact
